The Reconciliation: The Peacekeeping Monument, also known as the Peacekeeping Monument, stands as a tribute to Canada's commitment to international peace support missions and the service members involved. Dedicated on October 8, 1992, the monument commemorates the living and deceased Canadian soldiers who have participated in peacekeeping operations since 1947. Over 110,000 Canadian soldiers have served in UN, NATO, and other multinational task forces. The monument, designed by Jack K. Harman, Richard G. Henriquez, and Cornelia H. Oberlander, features three peacekeepers—two men and a woman—atop two knife-like ridges cutting through war debris, converging at a high point symbolizing conflict resolution. The design includes a corridor of concrete and steel debris inside two solid granite walls. The corridor is best viewed from the southeast, drawing the eye into the narrow opening with floor tiles modeled on the Green Line bisecting Nicosia, Cyprus. Located near the ByWard Market, the monument is accessible 24 hours a day. The surrounding area provides a serene atmosphere for reflection on peace and cooperation. The monument serves as a gathering place for commemorative events, reinforcing its role in promoting peace and remembrance.
