The mine's history dates back several decades when local fishermen and hunters found unusual hexagonal stones. From 1993 to 2009, the owners conducted extensive research to locate the main crystal deposit. In 2010, the Chrétien-Belley family created Cristal du Lac to share their passion for mineral prospecting while respecting the environment. Visitors can participate in a guided tour that includes a hike to the mining site. Here, they can observe a prospector at work and learn about the geological formation of the crystals. Participants are provided with basic equipment to collect their own quartz crystals, with a limit of 100 grams. The quartz crystals found at Cristal du Lac are hexagonal and come in various colors, including tangerine hues. These crystals are considered gemstones and are popular among collectors and jewelry enthusiasts. In addition to the mine excursion, Cristal du Lac features a Crystal Prospector Economuseum, opened in 2023, with mineralogical activities such as pearl extraction and gold panning.
