Discover more about Vimy Memorial Bandstand

The Vimy Memorial Bandstand stands proudly in Kiwanis Memorial Park, a tribute to the Canadian soldiers who demonstrated extraordinary courage at the Battle of Vimy Ridge in 1917. This battle is considered a defining moment for Canada, marking its emergence as an independent nation. In 1936, a pilgrimage to Vimy, France, inspired the construction of this memorial. The Kiwanis Club of Saskatoon took on the project, intending the bandstand to be a place where the community could gather, enjoy music, and remember the sacrifices made during the Great War. The bandstand was completed in 1937. The structure itself is made of concrete and painted white, featuring a semi-domed roof crowned with a lantern and supported by eight pillars. An iron balustrade encloses the band area, and steps lead up to the platform. The words "VIMY MEMORIAL" are inscribed above the entrance, accompanied by a brass plaque commemorating the Kiwanis Club's role in its creation. Kiwanis Memorial Park, where the bandstand is located, is an urban park along the South Saskatchewan River. It features walking paths, memorials, and public art installations. The park hosts various events throughout the year and provides scenic views of the river and the Bessborough Hotel.
