Getting There

    The Faro Molo de Abrigo is located at the end of the Molo de Abrigo (breakwater), easily accessible by foot from the Antofagasta city center. From the Plaza Colón, walk west along Avenida Balmaceda towards the port. Continue onto the breakwater; the lighthouse will be at its end. The walk is approximately 1.5km and takes about 20 minutes. There are no costs involved.

    Several bus lines operate along Avenida Balmaceda, providing access to the port area. Take any bus heading west towards the port and disembark near the entrance to the Molo de Abrigo. From there, walk to the lighthouse. Bus fare is approximately 600 CLP. Then walk approximately 1.5km and takes about 20 minutes.

The Faro Molo de Abrigo de Antofagasta, also known as the Antofagasta Southern Pier Lighthouse, stands as a testament to the city's rich maritime past. Erected in 1934, this lighthouse guides vessels into the harbor of Antofagasta, a major port city in northern Chile. The lighthouse is a cylindrical concrete tower adorned with horizontal bands of white and red. Originally equipped with a solar valve providing visibility up to 7 nautical miles, it now uses an electric light with a photoelectric cell. It also features a fog signal that emits a tone every 5 seconds. The lighthouse is 13 meters tall and has a luminous range of 20 nautical miles.
