Discover more about Agustín Ross Cultural Centre

The Agustín Ross Cultural Centre, originally known as the Ross Casino, stands as a prominent landmark in the coastal city of Pichilemu, Chile. Constructed between 1906 and 1909, under the direction of Agustín Ross Edwards, a Chilean politician and diplomat, the building was intended to be a grand casino and social hub, drawing inspiration from the Grand Trianon of Versailles. Ross imported materials and furniture from France and England, reflecting his vision of transforming Pichilemu into a sophisticated seaside resort. For a time, the building operated as one of Chile's first casinos, officially opening in 1917 and attracting the Chilean elite. Besides the casino, the building also housed a post office, telegraph service, and a store selling imported goods. However, in 1931, with the opening of the first official casino in Viña del Mar, the Ross Casino was declared illegal and closed. Over the years, the building transitioned into various roles, including a hotel, discotheque, and bar. In 1988, the building was declared a National Monument of Chile, recognizing its historical and cultural significance. After falling into disrepair, it underwent extensive renovations in the early 2000s and reopened in 2009 as the Agustín Ross Cultural Centre. Today, the center houses Pichilemu's public library, exhibition rooms, an auditorium, and spaces for workshops and cultural activities. It hosts a variety of events, including art exhibitions, musical performances, and educational workshops, contributing to the town's vibrant arts scene. The Cultural Centre serves as a dynamic space where visitors can engage with local art, learn about the region's history, and participate in community events.
