Local know-how to help you travel smarter and make the most of every moment.
Public Bus
From the center of Bogotá (e.g., Plaza de Bolívar), take a TransMilenio bus to the 'Portal de Norte' station. Once you arrive, transfer to a local bus (bus number 300 or 400) heading towards La Calera. Ask the driver to drop you off at the 'Observatorio de Colibríes' stop or look for signs along the way. The observatory is approximately a 10-minute walk from the bus stop.
Taxi or Rideshare
Use a taxi or a rideshare app like Uber or Beat. Input 'Observatorio de Colibríes, variante Frailejonal, La Calera' as your destination. The ride from central Bogotá should take around 40-60 minutes, depending on traffic. Ensure to confirm the location with the driver before departing.
Bicycle
If you're feeling adventurous and enjoy cycling, rent a bike and follow the bike-friendly paths towards La Calera. Start from La Candelaria and head northeast, following the Carrera 7 until you reach the outskirts of Bogotá. Continue on the road towards La Calera, observing local traffic rules. The observatory is located just off Variante Frailejonal, and you may need to walk a short distance after parking your bike.
Walking
Walking to the Observatorio de Colibríes is not practical due to the distance and elevation; however, if you find yourself in La Calera, you can walk from the local bus stop towards the observatory. Follow the main road, Variante Frailejonal, and look for the signs directing you to the observatory, which is approximately 1 kilometer away from the bus stop.
