Discover more about Farallones National Natural Park

Farallones de Cali National Natural Park, a majestic mountain range rising above Cali, offers a refuge from city life. Covering over 40,000 hectares, the park boasts diverse ecosystems and microclimates, fostering unique landscapes and extraordinary flora and fauna. The "farallones" themselves are rock formations dating back approximately 20 million years, the youngest in the Western Cordillera of the Andes, formed by the folding of the South American and Nazca tectonic plates. The park is a haven for biodiversity, home to over 540 bird species, including the endemic Tororoi Bailador, and various mammals like the spectacled bear and anteater. Hiking enthusiasts can explore well-marked trails offering panoramic views, while birdwatchers can delight in spotting over 350 recorded species. Popular trails include Pico de Loro, known for its challenging ascent and rewarding views, and Burbujas Trail, offering a more leisurely walk. Historically, the park faced challenges due to armed conflict, leading to its closure. While security remains a concern in some areas, the park is gradually reopening, offering access to certain trails with guides. The park plays a vital role in conserving the region's natural resources, protecting over 30 rivers that supply water to southwestern Colombia. Visitors can explore different sectors of the park, each offering unique attractions. The Pance sector provides access to Pico de Loro, while Quebradahonda leads to Peñas Blancas. The Anchicayá Canyon offers a natural well for swimming. As you ascend, you'll transition through distinct ecological zones, from tropical forests to cloud forests and the unique páramo ecosystem.
