Getting There

  • Car

    If you are traveling by car, start from Steamboat Springs and take US-40 East. Continue on US-40 until you reach I-70 East. Merge onto I-70 East and follow for approximately 70 miles. Then take exit 232 for US-285 South toward Fairplay. Follow US-285 South for about 50 miles until you reach the town of Sanford. Turn left onto County Road 24, and after about 3 miles, you will find Pikes Stockade located at 22862 Co Rd 24.

    If you prefer to use public transportation, take the Bustang bus service from Steamboat Springs to Denver. From Denver, transfer to a Greyhound bus heading to Alamosa. Once in Alamosa, you will need to take a taxi or arrange for a rideshare service to get to Pikes Stockade in Sanford, which is approximately a 40-minute drive from Alamosa. Be sure to check the bus schedules in advance for the most current timings.

  • Bicycle

    For those who wish to cycle, you can start from Alamosa. Head east on US-160, then take a right onto CO-285 North. Continue north until you reach Sanford.
