Getting There

• Car

  If you are traveling by car, start by heading to Estes Park, Colorado. From the center of Estes Park, drive north on US-36 N for approximately 4 miles until you reach the entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. Once inside the park, follow the signs to Trail Ridge Road (CO-34). Continue on Trail Ridge Road for about 10 miles until you see the signs for Forest Canyon Overlook. There is a parking area available for visitors. Note that there is an entrance fee for the national park, which is currently $30 per vehicle (valid for 7 days), so be prepared to pay this fee.

• Public Transportation

  If you are using public transportation, take the Bustang Outrider from Denver to Estes Park. Once you arrive in Estes Park, you will need to use a local shuttle service or taxi to get to the entrance of Rocky Mountain National Park. The local shuttle services may vary in availability, so it is recommended to check schedules ahead of time. After reaching the park entrance, the same as by car, you'll need to head towards Trail Ridge Road (CO-34) and follow it to Forest Canyon Overlook. Be aware that you will still need to pay the entrance fee of $30 per vehicle, so budget for this if you are using a taxi.

• Bicycle or Hiking

  For the adventurous, you can bicycle from Estes Park to the park entrance and then take Trail Ridge Road to Forest Canyon Overlook. This route is approximately 14 miles long and involves some elevation gain, so be prepared for a challenging ride. Once you reach the park, please remember that Trail Ridge Road can be busy with vehicle traffic. If you prefer to hike, consider taking the Fern Lake Trail or another nearby trail that leads toward the high country, as some trails may intersect with the road leading to the overlook. Make sure to check trail conditions and bring plenty of water and snacks.
