The museum is dedicated to preserving and presenting the rich history and culture of the Pikes Peak region. Housed in the beautifully restored 1903 El Paso County Courthouse, a landmark in itself, the museum offers visitors a chance to explore the diverse stories of this unique area. The museum's collections encompass a wide range of artifacts, archival materials, and fine art. Exhibits cover various aspects of the region's history, including its Native American heritage, the founding of Colorado Springs, the mining and agricultural industries, its time as a health resort, and its more recent role as a military center. Highlights include Native American artifacts from the Ute, Arapaho, and Cheyenne tribes, possessions from the home of poet Helen Hunt Jackson, and a nationally significant collection of quilts. Art enthusiasts can admire the Van Briggle art pottery and the regional landscape art collection, as well as Eric Bransby's murals depicting the region's history.
