Getting There

  • Driving

    To reach Mount Lincoln, start from Alma, Colorado. Drive west on County Road 8 (Buckskin Street) for approximately 5.5 miles to the Kite Lake Trailhead. The road is accessible to most vehicles, but the last mile can be rough. Parking at the Kite Lake Trailhead is free and first-come, first-served. However, from June 14 to September 14, a reservation is required to park at the Quandary Peak Trailhead. A parking ticket is $100 in the Quandary parking lot and along McCullough Gulch and Blue Lakes Road. An alternative is to take the shuttle from Breckenridge to access the Quandary Peak and McCullough Gulch trailheads. The shuttle costs $7 for visitors.

    During the summer months (June 14 - September 14), a shuttle service operates from Breckenridge to the Quandary Peak Trailhead, which provides access to Mount Lincoln via the Decalibron loop. From Breckenridge, take the free town bus to the South Gondola parking garage. From there, board the Quandary Peak shuttle. The round-trip shuttle fare is $7 for visitors. Be sure to reserve your shuttle ticket in advance at hikequandary.com. Visitors are required to show proof of payment to board the shuttle. From the Quandary Peak Trailhead, follow the trail towards McCullough Gulch, where you will board a second on-site shuttle to go to McCullough Gulch. Visitors will not need to purchase a second shuttle ticket for this on-site shuttle, as it is included with a round-trip shuttle ticket or parking reservation.
