Discover more about Above All State Park

Above All State Park, located in Warren, Connecticut, is a 31-acre undeveloped park with a unique history. Originally established in 1927, the park's name is said to come from its high, isolated location, or from the Stone family who claimed it was the highest working farm in Connecticut. Before becoming a park, the peak was the site of a wooden observation tower before the Civil War. A summer resort with a 125-foot observation tower was planned in the 1880s but never built. From 1957 to 1968, the park served as a Semi-Automatic Ground Environment (SAGE) Air Defense Network radar site during the Cold War. Known as the New Preston Gap-Filler RADAR Annex P-50A / Z-50A, the unmanned site provided low altitude coverage for northwestern Connecticut. Today, Above All State Park offers informal, unmaintained trails for hiking and exploring. Visitors can still see remnants of the Cold War radar installation, including the radar equipment building's foundation and fuel tank supports. The park is a quiet, secluded spot for nature lovers and history enthusiasts.
