If you're driving from the Monteverde Cloud Forest Biological Reserve, start by heading southeast on Route 606. Follow the signs to Tilarán. After approximately 30 minutes, merge onto Route 145 and continue until you reach the town of Tilarán. From Tilarán, take Route 141 towards the town of La Fortuna. After about 25 minutes, you'll reach the intersection with Route 1 (Interamericana Norte). Turn right onto Route 1 and head south towards Puntarenas. Continue for about 1 hour and 15 minutes until you reach Puntarenas. Once in Puntarenas, follow the signs to the city center.
