Getting There

Car
If you are traveling by car, start from La Fortuna, which is a popular tourist destination in the North Zone. Head south on Route 142 towards San Carlos. After about 25 km, merge onto Route 35 towards San Ramón. Continue on Route 35 for approximately 35 km until you reach the intersection with Route 1 (Interamericana Norte). Turn left onto Route 1 and continue for 10 km. Take the exit toward Alajuela and follow the signs for the airport. Continue on the road until you see signs for Turrúcares. Once in Turrúcares, look for C. Juntas, where the Costa Rica Animal Rescue Center is located. The entire drive should take around 1.5 to 2 hours depending on traffic.

To reach the Costa Rica Animal Rescue Center using public transportation, first take a bus from La Fortuna to San Ramón. Buses leave regularly from the central bus station and the journey takes about 1 hour. Once in San Ramón, you will need to transfer to a bus heading to Alajuela. After a 30-minute ride, get off at the Alajuela bus terminal. From there, look for a local bus or taxi to Turrúcares. The local bus should take about 30 minutes, while a taxi may be faster but will incur additional costs. The total trip using public transportation may take around 2.5 to 3 hours, depending on wait times.
