Corcovado Beach: The Crown Jewel of Costa Rica

Getting There

• Car

  If you're driving, start by heading south on the Costanera Sur (Highway 34). Continue to follow this highway until you reach the town of Puerto Jiménez. From Puerto Jiménez, take the road towards La Palma, continuing on the road until you reach the entrance for Corcovado National Park. You can park your car at the designated parking area near the park entrance. Note that parking may incur a fee of around $5-$10 per day. From the park entrance, you will need to hike approximately 2.5 kilometers (about 1.5 miles) to reach Corcovado Beach.

• Public Transportation

  For those using public transportation, take a bus from San José to Puerto Jiménez. Buses typically leave from the Tracopa terminal. The journey takes around 8 hours and costs about $40. Once you arrive in Puerto Jiménez, you can either hire a taxi to take you to the Corcovado National Park entrance or take a local bus towards La Palma. Taxi fares may vary, but expect to pay around $20 to $30. From the park entrance, you will need to hike approximately 2.5 kilometers (about 1.5 miles) to reach Corcovado Beach.

• Hiking

  After reaching the Corcovado National Park entrance, follow the designated trail leading to Corcovado Beach. The hike is relatively easy, but it's advisable to wear sturdy hiking shoes, carry water, and be prepared for potential wildlife encounters. The path is well-marked, and it should take about 1 hour to reach the beach.
