The Plateau Mosque, officially known as the Grande Mosquée du Plateau, is a significant religious and architectural landmark located in the Plateau district of Abidjan, Ivory Coast. The mosque stands out with its modern design, a striking contrast to traditional mosque architecture, featuring a 65-meter high minaret and a majorelle-blue dome. Construction began in 1996 but faced significant delays due to political and economic crises, halting for 18 years until a donation from Saudi Arabia revived the project. The mosque was finally inaugurated in 2007. The mosque covers 7,500 m² and can accommodate around 6,500 worshippers, with space for 3,500 on the esplanade and 3,000 in the prayer hall. Inside, visitors can admire the elegant prayer hall bathed in natural light, a meticulously designed mihrab, and modern amenities such as air conditioning and sound systems. Beyond its religious function, the Plateau Mosque serves as a cultural hub, promoting unity and understanding through educational and cultural events. Visitors should dress modestly and respectfully.
