Getting There

  • Walking

    The most popular hiking trail to Vidova Gora starts from Bol. Begin at the Church of Our Lady of Mount Carmel in Bol, following the marked mountain trail. The trail intersects with the access road to Bol and leads through Podborje. The climb is challenging, gaining 780 meters in elevation. The hike to the top takes approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. Remember to wear appropriate footwear and bring plenty of water, especially during the summer months. There is no entrance fee.

  • Driving

    To reach Vidova Gora by car, navigate towards Nerežišća, southeast of which you'll find the turnoff for a good sealed road leading to the summit. From Bol, follow the signs towards Supetar and then Nerežišća. The drive from Bol to the Vidova Gora parking area takes approximately 30 minutes. Parking is available near the summit. From the parking lot, it's a short 15-minute walk to the viewpoint. There is no entrance fee.

Vidova Gora, rising 778 meters (2,553 ft) above sea level, reigns as the highest peak on Brač and the Adriatic islands. This natural landmark offers breathtaking panoramic views that stretch across the Adriatic Sea, encompassing the islands of Hvar, Vis, and Korčula, and extending to the Croatian mainland. On exceptionally clear days, some claim you can even glimpse the shores of Italy.The mountain's name, Vidova Gora, has its roots in Old Slavic mythology, where the peak was dedicated to the deity Perun. With the advent of Christianity, Perun was replaced by Saint Vitus. Remnants of a Romanesque church dedicated to Saint Vitus, dating back to the 13th or 14th century, can still be found near the summit.Visitors can reach the summit either by car via a paved road or by embarking on a rewarding, though challenging, hiking trail from Bol. The hike typically takes around two hours, offering stunning views along the way. The trail is well-marked with red and white blazes, making navigation relatively easy. Be prepared for a steep ascent and rocky terrain, especially during the summer months. Starting early in the morning is recommended to avoid the heat.At the summit, besides the incredible views, you'll find a 12-meter high stone cross and the remnants of the Romanesque church of Saint Vitus. A cafe operates during the summer season, providing refreshments. The area around Vidova Gora is also known for its indigenous vegetation, including Dalmatian black pine.According to oral tradition, Vidova Gora has three pools for rainwater collection created in ancient times by placing waterproof clay into recesses. The rainwater was used to water livestock and by humans.
