Discover more about Telašćica Nature Park

Telašćica Nature Park, situated on the southeastern end of Dugi Otok island, is a captivating blend of natural beauty and ecological diversity. Proclaimed a Nature Park in 1988, it covers 70.50 km², including 25.95 km² of land and 44.55 km² of sea. The park's name originates from the Latin term “tre lagus” (three lakes), reflecting the three distinct sections of the Telašćica Bay: Tripuljak, Farfarikulac, and Telašćica. These bays are karstic sinkholes formed by melting ice thousands of years ago. The park boasts three natural phenomena: Telašćica Bay, the cliffs of Dugi Otok, and the salt lake Mir. Telašćica Bay is the safest and largest natural port in the Adriatic, featuring 25 small beaches. The cliffs, known as “stene”, rise up to 161 meters above the sea and plunge to a depth of 90 meters, providing a habitat for peregrine falcons. Lake Mir, a salt lake with medicinal properties, is another highlight. Its high salinity and warm temperatures make it ideal for swimming. Telašćica has been inhabited since prehistoric times, with archaeological sites and historical monuments scattered throughout the area. The Austro-Hungarian fortress of Grpašćak offers panoramic views of the Adriatic coast. The park's diverse flora includes over 500 plant species, while the underwater world teems with more than 300 plant and 300 animal species. Visitors can explore the park by boat, on foot, or by bike, discovering hidden coves, scenic paths, and key attractions such as Lake Mir and the cliffs.
