The route is well-signposted. There are no entrance fees to walk to the park entrance, but a ticket is required to enter the park itself. Be mindful of local traffic when walking along the road.

    Buses connect Zadar to Starigrad. From the Starigrad bus stop, it's a 15-20 minute walk to the park entrance. A one-way bus ticket from Zadar to Starigrad costs approximately €3-€7. Check local bus schedules for the most up-to-date information. Nearly all coastal buses stop at Starigrad.

  • Taxi

    Taxis are available in Starigrad. A taxi from the center of Starigrad to the Paklenica National Park entrance will cost approximately €10-€15. Ensure the taxi is licensed and agree on the fare before starting your journey.

    From the A1 highway (Zagreb-Split), take the Maslenica exit and follow the D8 state road towards Rijeka. Signs will direct you to Starigrad and Paklenica National Park. Paklenica National Park, located near Starigrad in North Dalmatia, is a haven for outdoor enthusiasts. Established in 1949, it's Croatia's second-oldest national park, encompassing nearly 100 square kilometers of the southern slopes of the Velebit mountain range. The park's name, "Paklenica," comes from the black pine sap ('paklina') once used by locals for coating wooden boats and in traditional medicine. The park's defining features are the Velika (Big) and Mala (Small) Paklenica canyons, carved by karst rivers. Velika Paklenica, 14 km long, is the most popular and easily accessible canyon, renowned for its impressive rock formations and climbing routes. Mala Paklenica, 12 km long, offers a more rugged and less crowded experience, with trails open from late April to the end of October and is considered a wilderness area. Paklenica is a paradise for hikers, with 150-200 km of trails ranging from easy tourist routes to challenging ascents to Velebit's highest peaks. Popular trails include the Velika Paklenica Canyon Trail, the Paklenica Mountain Hut Trail, and the trail to Manita Peć cave. The park is also a world-class climbing destination, with over 500 well-equipped routes of varying difficulty, attracting climbers from across Europe. Anića Kuk is the most famous rock, offering 350 meters of routes. Beyond its canyons, Paklenica boasts diverse landscapes, including forests of black pine and beech, and the highest peak of Velebit, Vaganski Vrh (1757 m). The park is also rich in wildlife, including various bird species, deer, bears, foxes, wild cats and lynx. Manita Peć cave, accessible with a guided tour, showcases impressive cave formations. In 2017, Paklenica National Park was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its well-preserved beech forests.
