Discover more about Chapel of St. Sebastian

The Chapel of St. Sebastian, located on Trogir's main square, is a testament to the city's resilience and artistic heritage. Built in 1476, the chapel was a votive offering by the citizens of Trogir in gratitude for being spared from the plague. The chapel's Renaissance facade, crafted by Niccolo di Giovanni Fiorentino, features sculptures of St. Sebastian and Christ the Saviour. Coats of arms of Bishop Giacomo Torlon and Duke Malipiero add to its historical significance. The chapel's most distinguishing feature is the two-story tower of the town clock rising above its front. The interior, simpler in design, now serves as a memorial space for the defenders of Trogir who fell in the Homeland War. A lit panel displays photos of the war dead, accompanied by a plaque bearing their names and a Croatian flag. Originally, the chapel was part of a centrally planned church with six apses dedicated to St. Mary. Today, it stands between the Church of St. Mary and the City Loggia, a reminder of Trogir's rich history and the enduring spirit of its people.
