Discover more about Double Reef

Double Reef is a premier diving and snorkeling location situated just off the John F. Kennedy Boulevard in Willemstad, Curaçao. Its name comes from its unique structure: two parallel reef systems separated by a sandy channel. The first reef, closer to the shore, begins in shallow waters around 4 meters (13 feet), gradually sloping down to a sandy bottom at approximately 14 meters (46 feet). Across the sandy expanse, the second reef rises, starting at about 18 meters (60 feet) and plunging to depths of 30 meters (100 feet) or more. This outer reef is the main attraction, boasting a vibrant ecosystem of hard and soft corals, including impressive brain corals and star corals. Divers frequently encounter green and spotted moray eels, cowfish, angelfish, tangs, urchins, and various species of parrotfish. Sea turtles are a common sight, often seen resting on the reef. Lucky visitors might spot large tarpons or even rays gliding across the sandy bottom. The site is accessible from the shore, close to the Water Plant in Otrobanda and near the MV Superior Producer dive site. Divers can enter the water and swim to the first reef, then cross the sandy channel to reach the more dramatic outer reef. The clear waters of Curaçao provide excellent visibility, often ranging from 10 to 25 meters (32 to 82 feet), making it ideal for underwater photography and exploration. With generally calm conditions and minimal current, Double Reef is suitable for both novice and experienced divers.
