Discover more about Landhuis Chobolobo

Step into Landhuis Chobolobo, a beautifully preserved 19th-century country mansion, and immerse yourself in the rich history of Curaçao. This iconic landmark is home to the Curaçao Liqueur Distillery, where the world-famous Blue Curaçao is crafted. Built in the early 1800s, Landhuis Chobolobo was once a country residence for wealthy merchants. The property's history is somewhat unclear, but it's believed the landhuis never served another purpose other than as a residence. In 1776, it was owned by Anna Mattheeuw, a free mulatto, and was called Sebollobo, meaning "freedom" in an Indian language. The name eventually transformed into Chobolobo. In 1946, Senior & Co. purchased Landhuis Chobolobo and moved their distillery to the property. The company had a laraha plantation in Klein Kwartier and used the bitter laraha oranges to create Curaçao liqueur. Since then, the distillery has been housed at Chobolobo. During a restoration in 2014, a museum and information center were added to the old storage sheds, and a café was opened behind the landhuis. Today, Landhuis Chobolobo is one of Curaçao's most popular tourist attractions. Visitors can take guided tours of the distillery to learn about the history of Curaçao and the distillation process of Blue Curaçao liqueur. The tour includes a tasting of the various Curaçao liqueurs, including the classic Blue Curaçao, as well as other flavors like green, orange, and chocolate. You can even participate in a cocktail workshop and learn how to make your own cocktails. The property also features a cozy courtyard where you can enjoy local bites and ice cream, as well as a souvenir shop where you can purchase authentic local souvenirs.
