The exhibits trace the journey of enslaved Africans from their capture to their forced relocation in the Americas. Artifacts from West African empires, Mesopotamian relics, and Antillean art are also showcased, providing a broader cultural context. Reconstructed slave ships and plantation dwellings offer a visceral sense of the conditions endured by enslaved people.The museum does not shy away from the brutality of slavery, displaying original documents, instruments of torture, and other harrowing objects.
