Discover more about Hòfi Mango

Hòfi Mango, nestled in the heart of Curaçao, is a captivating nature park that seamlessly blends the island's rich history with its stunning natural beauty. This 24-hectare sanctuary, once a colonial plantation established in 1707, has been lovingly restored and transformed into a peaceful retreat for locals and tourists alike. Originally known as Plantation Santa Cruz, the land was primarily used for growing mangoes and sugarcane. The plantation played a significant role in Curaçao's agricultural history, and remnants of this past can still be seen today. The park is home to the only remaining Dutch-style sugar mill on the island, a unique and historically significant structure that stands as a testament to Curaçao's colonial past. Alongside the sugar mill, visitors can also explore the ruins of a distillery dating back to 1707, offering a glimpse into the island's rum-making heritage. The name Hòfi Mango, meaning 'Mango Garden' in Papiamento, is derived from the park's impressive mango forest. This ancient forest boasts over a thousand mango trees, many of which are over 200 years old. Walking through the shaded trails of the mango forest is a truly enchanting experience, especially during the rainy season when streams flow through the area, creating a lush and vibrant ecosystem. In 1795, during the Curaçaoan slave revolt, Tula and other enslaved people gathered here to drink a pledge of loyalty, solidifying the location as a historically significant landmark. Beyond its historical significance, Hòfi Mango is a haven for nature lovers. The park is home to a diverse array of plant and animal life, including colorful birds, butterflies, lizards, and even wild pigs and white-tailed deer. Visitors can explore a variety of themed gardens, such as the palm tree garden, cactus garden, and butterfly garden, each showcasing the unique flora of Curaçao. One of the park's most iconic features is the 'Stairway to Heaven,' a set of stairs leading to a hilltop viewpoint. At the top, visitors are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding landscape, including the majestic Christoffelberg, Curaçao's highest peak. The viewpoint also features the 'Hand of God' artwork, a striking sculpture that adds a touch of artistry to the natural setting. Hòfi Mango is more than just a park; it's a place where nature, history, and culture come together to create a truly unique and unforgettable experience.
