Discover more about Landhuis Cas Abou

Landhuis Cas Abou, nestled in the northeastern part of Curaçao, stands as a testament to the island's rich colonial history. Founded in the 17th century, the plantation originally spanned nearly a thousand acres. The landhuis itself was constructed around 1750 and was once known as Engelenberg, named after its owner, Willebrord van Engelen. Agriculture and salt mining were the primary activities on the plantation, and remnants of the old salt pans can still be seen today. During the Curaçaoan slave revolt of 1795 and the English sackings of 1805, the plantation suffered significant damage. The landhuis was fully restored around 1970, with some modifications made to the facades, dormers, and windows. Today, Landhuis Cas Abou offers visitors a tranquil atmosphere, showcasing colonial architecture amidst Curaçao's natural beauty. The grounds provide a serene escape from bustling tourist spots, with opportunities for nature walks and cultural engagement. The structure features a main building with a saddle roof and dormers, surrounded by galleries. The kitchen is located in a separate annex with its own tent roof. The complex also includes a magasina (storehouse), a coach house, a cistern, and a separate toilet building.
