Serving as the first Director of the Pediatric Clinic at Limassol Hospital from 1962 to 1970, Dr. Argyriou revolutionized pediatric care on the island. Beyond his clinical work, he was a passionate advocate for the dignified treatment of individuals with intellectual disabilities, founding the Theotokos Foundation in 1969 to serve this purpose. His work significantly improved their quality of life. Dr. Argyriou also spearheaded preventative pediatrics, establishing a Center for Preventative Pediatrics. Today, the Center for Preventive Paediatrics “Americos Argyriou” continues his work, providing free screening programs for pregnant women and newborns. The statue serves as a reminder of his profound influence and lasting legacy.
