Step back in time and immerse yourself in Cyprus's rich cultural heritage at the Pierides Museum, housed in a beautiful colonial-style mansion built in 1815. Founded by the Pierides family, this museum is the oldest private museum on the island, boasting a collection assembled over five generations. The museum's comprehensive collection includes some of the most representative items of the island's civilization, charting its economic, social, and cultural development over thousands of years. The exhibits showcase artifacts from the Neolithic period through the Bronze Age, Geometric, Archaic, Hellenistic, Roman, Byzantine, and Medieval ages. Prized items include red polished ware from the Early Bronze Age, Roman glassware, and medieval ceramic dishes. The museum is organized into five halls, each dedicated to a specific period : Hall 1: Prehistoric finds from 7000 to 475 BCE. Hall 2: Objects from the Archaic to Roman times, from 750 BCE to 395 AD. Hall 3: Cartography from the mid-15th century through 1960. Halls 4 & 5: Hellenistic and Roman glass, as well as Franconian ceramics. Visitors can also explore a display case of Modern Greek and Cypriot sculptures in the courtyard. The museum participates in the Larnaca Biennale, displaying contemporary art since 2018.
