Getting There

    The best way to reach Omodos is by car. From Limassol, follow the B8 road towards the Troodos Mountains, then turn onto F825, which leads directly to Omodos. The drive takes about 45 minutes. Parking is available near the village center, but it can be limited during peak season. Expect to pay around €3-€5 for parking.

  • Public Transport

    From Limassol, you can take bus No. 40 to Omodos Elementary School. The bus departs from Archiep. Leontiou A´ - Panagioti Diomidous every two hours and the journey takes approximately 1 hour and 13 minutes. A one-way ticket costs around €4.

  • Taxi

    A taxi from Limassol to Omodos takes about 40 minutes and costs between €45 and €60. Taxis are readily available in Limassol.

Omodos, located in the Limassol district, is one of the most traditional and charming villages in Cyprus. Situated at an altitude of 800 meters in the Troodos Mountains, it's approximately 42 km northwest of Limassol. The village dates back to the Byzantine or early Frankish period. According to one version, the village was named after the feudal lord Homodeus. Omodos is known for its traditional Cypriot architecture, featuring stone-built houses, narrow streets, and a large picturesque square. The majestic Monastery of the Holy Cross (Timios Stavros), is located at the top of the square. The monastery is one of the oldest and most significant sacred sites in Cyprus, dating back to the 4th century. It is said to house a relic of the True Cross, drawing pilgrims and visitors. Wine production has been a significant part of Omodos's history and culture. The village is surrounded by vineyards and is known for producing Commandaria, one of the world's oldest wines. There are several wineries in and around Omodos that offer wine tours and tastings. In addition to wine, Omodos is also known for Zivania spirit, handmade narrow-knit lacing, and 'arkatena' bread. Today, Omodos is a popular agrotourism destination, offering visitors a glimpse into traditional Cypriot life.
