Ayia Triada “Plastic Free Beach”

Ayia Triada “Plastic Free Beach” is a gem on the eastern coast of Cyprus, nestled in the popular resort town of Protaras. This beach stands out not only for its natural beauty, boasting fine, golden sands and crystal-clear waters, but also for its unwavering commitment to environmental sustainability. In August 2021, Ayia Triada was launched as the first “Plastic Free Beach” in Cyprus, encouraging visitors to avoid single-use plastics. This initiative is part of the broader “Keep Our Sand and Sea Plastic Free” project, aimed at reducing plastic pollution in coastal regions. The beach provides a water refill station with cold, filtered water, encouraging visitors to bring their own reusable bottles. A designated smoking area helps to keep cigarette butts off the sand. Adding to the beach's unique character is the conceptual artwork “CALYPSO,” a turtle sculpture made entirely from plastic waste collected during beach clean-ups. Created by artist Vangelis Evangelou, “CALYPSO” serves as a poignant reminder of the impact of plastic pollution on marine life. Beyond its environmental efforts, Ayia Triada offers a range of amenities, including sunbeds, umbrellas, lavatories, and changing rooms. The calm, shallow waters make it an ideal destination for families with children, while the surrounding area features restaurants and cafes serving local Cypriot cuisine. The picturesque fishing harbor and the quaint chapel of Ayia Triada, from which the beach derives its name, add to the area's charm.
