Techmania Science Center: An Interactive Journey into Science

Techmania Science Center, located in the heart of Pilsen, Czech Republic, is an engaging and interactive science museum designed to make science accessible and fun for visitors of all ages. Established in 2005 as a joint project by Škoda Transportation and the University of West Bohemia, Techmania opened its doors in 2008 within the historic Škoda factory complex. The center's mission is to promote science, technology, and the development of human knowledge through hands-on exhibits and activities. Techmania features a wide array of interactive exhibits covering various scientific principles, including optics, mechanics, electricity, and magnetism. Visitors can explore the 'Water World,' conduct experiments in fully-equipped laboratories, and witness demonstrations of static electricity using a Van de Graaff generator. A highlight of Techmania is its 3D planetarium, the first of its kind in the Czech Republic, offering immersive shows about space exploration and astronomy. The center also houses a collection of historical Škoda vehicles, including locomotives, trolleybuses, and a steam engine from 1909, showcasing the region's industrial heritage. Additionally, Techmania hosts science shows and workshops, providing entertaining and educational experiences. Since opening, Techmania has welcomed over 300,000 visitors, becoming a popular destination for school groups and families. The center's unique blend of historical industrial setting and modern interactive exhibits makes it a standout attraction in Pilsen.
