Karlstejn Castle Wine and Glass Private Tour
Wine History and Wine Tasting - A fun day in and around Karlstejn Castle!
This was the first of two tours we took in July with Wine Travel in Czech. This was a one day trip that took us to Kalstejn Castle, the 14th century home of Holy Roman Emperor Charles IV who - in addition to setting Prague on the road to becoming a grand European city -- supported development of the Czech wine industry. Our WSET trained guide, Andrea, was an enthusiastic and charming escort who enhanced our experience through her knowledgeable commentary. We also visited the Czech Wine Research Center where, in addition to tasting some delightful Czech wines, we learned about the history of Czech viticulture, how it survived the Communist era, and how they are working to build a library of Czech grapes in a nearby vineyard. We finished the day with a stop at a glass works factory where we witnessed the process of making molten sand into delicately etched glass objects. It was a full day but a very educational and fun day.
