    Discover more about Strahov Library

The Strahov Library, located in the Strahov Monastery, is one of the Czech Republic's most significant and beautiful libraries. Founded in the 12th century, the library has continuously gathered knowledge, surviving fires, wars, and political upheaval. Today, it stands as a stunning example of Baroque and Classical architecture, housing a vast collection of books and manuscripts. The library comprises two main halls: the Theological Hall and the Philosophical Hall. The Theological Hall, built in the late 17th century, showcases Baroque architecture with ornate stucco work and frescoes depicting the pursuit of divine wisdom. The Philosophical Hall, added in the 18th century, exemplifies Classical style and features a ceiling fresco portraying the intellectual progress of mankind. Visitors can also explore the Cabinet of Curiosities, located between the two main halls, which displays a collection of unique artifacts, scientific instruments, and natural wonders. The library's collection includes the Strahov Evangeliary, a 9th-century manuscript, and numerous first prints, offering a glimpse into the evolution of knowledge and scholarship. While visitors are not allowed to enter the halls to protect the delicate books and frescoes, the views from the doorways offer an unforgettable experience.
