Viewpoint Máj: A Vltava River Vista

Experience breathtaking views of the Vltava River's horseshoe bend from this natural vista point near Teletín, a short trip from Prague.

4.7

Viewpoint Máj (Vyhlídka Máj) presents one of the most iconic views of the Vltava River, showcasing a dramatic horseshoe bend carved into the landscape. Situated approximately 50 kilometers south of Prague, near the village of Teletín in the Krňany-Netvořice area, this vista point offers a tranquil escape into nature. Historically, before the construction of the Slapy Dam, this section of the Vltava River was known for its dangerous rapids, called Svatojánké proudy, which challenged raftsmen transporting wood to Prague. Today, the river flows more calmly, offering a picturesque scene framed by the surrounding forests. To reach the viewpoint, visitors typically park near Teletín and follow a 1-kilometer path that leads across a meadow and into the forest. The viewpoint itself is a natural rock formation, without railings or artificial platforms, which adds to its unspoiled charm. Those seeking an alternative perspective can explore nearby viewpoints such as Vyhlídka Mařenka and Vyhlídka Myšak, located a short walk along the ridge. These offer equally stunning, though often less crowded, views of the Vltava valley. Visitors should exercise caution, especially when climbing down for better views or visiting with children, as the terrain can be uneven and potentially hazardous. Despite its increasing popularity, Viewpoint Máj retains its natural beauty, providing a rewarding experience for those who venture to discover this hidden gem of the Czech countryside.
