Getting there

Public Transport

From Prague's Old Town, take the green metro line A to Jiřího z Poděbrad station. From there, walk through the park with the large church, and the TV Tower will be on your left, about a 5-minute walk. Alternatively, take trams 1, 5, 8, 9, 11, or 13 to Lipanská stop, followed by a 10-minute walk uphill to the tower. A single public transport ticket for a short trip costs 30 CZK.

Taxi

Taxis and ride-sharing services can drop you off directly at the Žižkov Television Tower. A taxi ride from Prague's city center typically takes around 5 minutes and costs approximately 220-270 CZK. Be sure to confirm the fare with the driver before starting your journey.

Walking

From Prague's Old Town Square, it is approximately a 35-minute walk to the Žižkov Television Tower. Head east, crossing the Vltava River, and follow the signs towards Žižkov. The tower is visible from a distance, aiding navigation. Note that the walk involves an uphill climb during the final approach.

Parking

If driving, Tower Park offers parking, with the entrance from Mahlerovy sady street. Limited street parking is also available nearby. Expect to pay approximately 40 CZK per hour for parking in the area. MR.PARKIT offers parking spots under the TV Tower, but the minimum reservation is 12 hours.

Overview

The Žižkov Television Tower (Žižkovský vysílač) is a prominent and unconventional landmark in Prague, built between 1985 and 1992. Designed by architect Václav Aulický and structural engineer Jiří Kozák, the tower stands 216 meters (709 feet) tall, making it the highest structure in Prague.Originally intended to improve broadcast signals and, according to some rumors, to block Western signals during the Cold War, the tower's construction was controversial. Its design, featuring three steel columns supporting nine 'pods,' was criticized for its jarring effect on the Prague skyline and proximity to a centuries-old Jewish cemetery.Today, the Žižkov Television Tower is a popular tourist attraction, offering stunning panoramic views of Prague from its observation deck at 93 meters. Visitors can enjoy 360-degree views of the city, spot famous landmarks, and relax in bubble chairs. The tower also houses a restaurant, café, bar, and even a luxury one-room hotel.The tower's exterior is adorned with ten giant 'Babies' sculptures by Czech artist David Černý, installed in 2000. These playful sculptures add a unique and whimsical touch to the tower's imposing structure, making it a favorite subject for photographs.Surrounding the tower is Mahler Gardens, providing a green space for relaxation and recreation, complete with mini-golf in the summer.
