Discover more about Orlík nad Humpolcem

Orlík nad Humpolcem, originally named Humpolec, is a castle ruin situated on a wooded hill near the village of Rozkoš, approximately two kilometers from Humpolec in the Pelhřimov district. Founded around 1371 by the lords of Dubá, the castle's first written mention dates back to 1399. Over the centuries, Orlík underwent several expansions and renovations, reflecting the changing fortunes and defensive needs of its owners. In the 15th century, the Leskovec family significantly altered the castle's layout. By the 16th century, the Trčka lords of Lípa further enhanced its defenses, adding a pentagonal bastion. However, financial difficulties led to simpler modifications, giving the castle its current form. Abandoned in the 17th century, Orlík fell into disrepair, becoming a source of building materials for locals. Despite this, parts of the castle, including the main tower, remained intact. Today, Orlík nad Humpolcem stands as a protected cultural monument, offering visitors a unique glimpse into the past. The reconstructed tower serves as a lookout point, providing exceptional views of the surrounding Vysočina landscape. Visitors can explore the castle grounds, including the prismatic tower, entrance gate, cellars, and remnants of residential buildings. A small museum within the castle displays archaeological finds, including medieval tile-making artifacts.
