Discover more about DuPont Nature Center

The DuPont Nature Center is a science-based educational and interpretive facility that connects people with the natural history and ecology of the Delaware Bay. Located at the Mispillion Harbor Reserve, where the Mispillion River and Cedar Creek flow into the Delaware Bay, the center provides a unique opportunity to witness the bay's vibrant ecosystem. The center's location is key to its appeal. Situated within the Milford Neck Nature Preserve, the area combines human activity with the diverse life of a tidal marsh and the expanse of the bay. The surrounding estuary habitat is home to over 130 species of birds, fish, shellfish, and other animals. The center itself features interactive exhibits, aquariums with live horseshoe crabs and terrapins, and a high-definition nature cam for close-up views of wildlife. An observation deck provides stunning views of the harbor, bay, and shoreline. The center is also located next to where the Mispillion Lighthouse once stood. The Mispillion Lighthouse served as a beacon for the community for over a century. Visitors can participate in structured tours and educational programs from April through September. These programs cover a range of topics, including horseshoe crabs, shorebirds, and local history. Even when the center is closed, the observation deck remains open from dawn to dusk, offering excellent opportunities to view shorebirds.
