    The Brandywine Zoo, a charming 4.7-acre zoo in Wilmington, Delaware, has been captivating visitors since 1905. Located within Brandywine Park on the banks of the Brandywine River, the zoo offers an intimate glimpse into the animal kingdom, showcasing species from the Americas, Asia, Africa, and Madagascar. Originally conceived by Dr. James H. Morgan, who donated animals to start the collection, the zoo has evolved over the years. It once featured a children's zoo with fairy tale exhibits and even housed bears, tigers and elk. Today, the Brandywine Zoo is home to a diverse array of animals, including Andean condors, red pandas, lemurs, capybaras, and various reptiles and birds. Some tropical animals are not on exhibit in the winter. The zoo is managed by the Delaware Division of Parks and Recreation and supported by the Delaware Zoological Society. As an accredited member of the Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) since 1981, the Brandywine Zoo is committed to providing excellent animal care, engaging visitor experiences, and contributing to conservation efforts. The zoo participates in projects such as the Delaware Kestrel Partnership and supports global initiatives like the Madagascar Biodiversity Partnership.
