Huset Gammelhavn occupies one of Esbjerg’s oldest and most distinctive buildings, raised in 1900 as the administration headquarters for the DFDS shipping company. From here, the new harbor once connected the town to the wider world, with clerks, captains and cargo agents moving through the same walls you see today. After DFDS moved out in the 1960s, the house began its second life as a restaurant and tavern, serving the dockside community. A thorough restoration in the early 2000s carefully revived the original structure while preparing it for a modern role as Esbjerg’s harbor dining room.

The restaurant reopened in 2005 after an extensive renovation that preserved the building’s historic shell but reimagined its interiors. Today you step into airy rooms where timber, exposed details and generous windows nod to the building’s working past, while polished surfaces, thoughtful lighting and comfortable seating feel distinctly contemporary.
