Christel Seyfarth Butik, Fanø
A small-but-stylish fashion and lifestyle shop in Nordby’s former bank building, SALT blends island charm with Scandinavian design on Fanø’s main street.
SALT is a characterful lifestyle and fashion shop in the heart of Nordby on Fanø, housed in the old Danske Bank building on Hovedgaden. Billing itself as Denmark’s smallest department store, it brings together women’s and men’s clothing, shoes, leather goods, accessories and home décor under one intimate roof. Curated by owner Mathilde Valbjørn, the store blends island charm with Scandinavian style, making it a rewarding stop on any stroll through Nordby’s main street.

Ferry and walking from Esbjerg
From Esbjerg, take the passenger and car ferry to Nordby on Fanø, a sailing of about 12 minutes that runs frequently through the day. A standard adult foot passenger ticket typically costs around 60–80 DKK return, with higher fares for vehicles. Once you arrive at Nordby harbour, it is an easy, mostly level walk of about 10–15 minutes through the town centre to reach Hovedgaden, where SALT is located. The route is suitable for most visitors, but cobblestones in places can be uneven for some wheelchairs or strollers.
Car via ferry to Nordby
Drivers can board the Esbjerg–Fanø ferry with their vehicle, with the crossing taking roughly 12 minutes each way. Return prices for a car with passengers usually start around 200–300 DKK, varying by size and season. After disembarking in Nordby, the drive through town to Hovedgaden takes around 5 minutes, though local streets are narrow and shared with pedestrians and cyclists. Parking close to the main street can be limited in high summer, so allow extra time to find a legal space and be prepared to walk a short distance to the shop.
Bicycle from Nordby harbour
If you bring a bicycle on the Esbjerg–Fanø ferry, or rent one on the island, SALT is a convenient short ride from Nordby harbour. The journey through town typically takes 5–10 minutes on mostly flat roads used by both cars and bikes. Expect to pay around 20–40 DKK each way to bring a regular bicycle on the ferry, depending on ticket type. Cycle slowly along Hovedgaden, as this central street is shared with pedestrians and can be busy in peak holiday periods; you may prefer to dismount and walk the last stretch.
