Discover more about Middleham Falls Dominica

Nestled within the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Morne Trois Pitons National Park, Middleham Falls is one of Dominica's most spectacular natural attractions. As the tallest waterfall on the island, it presents a breathtaking cascade of water plunging approximately 275 feet (84 meters) into a cool, inviting pool below. The journey to the falls is an adventure in itself, involving a moderately challenging hike through the heart of Dominica's lush rainforest. The trail to Middleham Falls is a 3.5 to 4-mile round trip, typically taking between 2 to 3 hours to complete, depending on your pace and how long you linger at the falls. The trailhead is located near the village of Laudat, approximately a 30-minute drive from the capital city of Roseau. The path winds through a diverse landscape, with a mix of dirt paths, rocky sections, and wooden steps, offering a varied and engaging hiking experience. As you embark on the hike, you'll be immediately immersed in the sights and sounds of the rainforest. Towering trees create a canopy overhead, filtering the sunlight and casting dappled shadows on the forest floor. The air is thick with humidity and the scent of damp earth and tropical vegetation. The trail gradually ascends, with some steep sections that require a bit of effort. In certain areas, the path can be slippery, especially after rainfall, so sturdy hiking boots with good traction are essential. You'll also encounter several small streams that you'll need to cross, stepping carefully on rocks to keep your feet as dry as possible. These refreshing river crossings provide a welcome respite from the humidity and offer opportunities to pause and appreciate the surrounding scenery. Along the way, you may be fortunate enough to spot some of Dominica's unique wildlife. At the end of the trail, a viewing platform allows you to witness the majestic falls. For those who wish to venture closer, a path leads to the pools at the bottom of the waterfall, but caution is advised due to slippery conditions. Swimming in the refreshing pool is a popular activity.
