Founded in 1993 by a Swiss-Quichua couple, Angelika Raimann and Remigio Canelos, along with Christine von Steiger, the center aims to rehabilitate, care for, and reintroduce confiscated animals back into their natural habitat. Visitors to amaZOOnico can witness the remarkable work being done to protect Ecuador's biodiversity. The center is home to a diverse array of Amazonian animals, including monkeys, macaws, parrots, toucans, jaguarundis, ocelots, coatis, and turtles. These animals, often victims of the illegal pet trade or black market, are given a second chance at life within the center's spacious and natural enclosures. Some animals that cannot be reintroduced to the wild due to their condition are given a permanent home at the rescue.The experience at amaZOOnico is both educational and heartwarming.
