Eel Garden View: Dahab's Underwater Paradise

Eel Garden View, located in the Akabai-öböl area of Dahab, South Sinai, is a renowned dive site celebrated for its unique underwater landscape and abundant marine life [i]. The site is particularly famous for hosting Dahab's largest colony of garden eels, which reside in tubular burrows on the sandy seabed. These eels create a mesmerizing spectacle as they sway with the current, resembling synchronized swimmers, and quickly retreat into their burrows when approached.The dive site features diverse habitats, including sandy slopes, shallow lagoons, and reef walls, making it an exciting location for divers of all levels. Divers can explore a jutting reef perpendicular to the main reef, descending to around 20 meters to discover coral boulders and table corals. The area is often patrolled by barracudas, and the shallower sections (5-10m) boast a wide variety of soft and hard corals, with occasional sightings of the rare sea grass ghost pipefish. Other marine life commonly spotted include Napoleons, flounders, whitespotted puffers, morays, and, more rarely, dolphins and eagle rays.Eel Garden is easily accessible from Dahab, lying approximately 500 meters north of the town center. It's a short ride by pick-up truck, making it a convenient dive site to reach.
