Getting There

  • Walking

    From the Suez Canal Authority building, walk approximately 500 meters east along El-Shohadaa street. The museum will be on your right, a short distance from the waterfront. No costs are involved.

  • Public Transport

    From the main bus station, take a local bus or microbus heading towards Port Tawfiq. Ask the driver to drop you off near the Suez Canal Authority building. From there, it's a short walk east to the museum. The bus fare is approximately 5-10 EGP.

  • Taxi

    Taxis are readily available throughout Suez. Ask the driver to take you to the 'Mat'haf al-Watani lil-Suways' (Suez National Museum) near the Suez Canal Authority building. A short taxi ride within the city center should cost around 15-25 EGP.

The Suez National Museum, located on the shores of the Gulf of Suez, serves as a cultural landmark, illuminating the history of the Suez Canal and the city. Officially opened in 2014, the museum's collection of 2,500 artifacts tells the story of Suez from prehistoric times to the modern era. The museum consists of two floors with an open exhibition hall displaying Greek, Roman, and Islamic archaeological columns. Exhibits shed light on the digging of the Suez Canal and other canals, such as the Canal of the Pharaohs, and their role in sea trade. The museum also highlights mining, shipbuilding, Egypt's commercial relationships, and Suez's role in the pilgrimage to Mecca. Key exhibits include a statue of King Senwosret III and a stela of the Persian king Darius I. The mummification hall simulates a cemetery and displays mummification tools, votive plaques, and colored coffins. A model of Queen Hatshepsut's ship is displayed in an artificial water basin. The museum also features a library and activity center for educational programs.
