Travel Guide to San Salvador Volcano

Getting There

• Car

  If you are driving from the capital city, San Salvador, take the CA-1 highway heading west towards Santa Tecla. Continue on CA-1 for approximately 10 km. Take the exit towards the road leading to the San Salvador Volcano (Volcán San Salvador) which is well marked. Follow the signs for approximately 5 km until you reach the entrance to the volcano national park. Note that there may be a small entrance fee for the park, usually around $1 to $3.

• Public Transportation

  From San Salvador, you can take a bus from the Terminal de Buses de Oriente. Look for buses heading towards Santa Tecla or the Volcán San Salvador. The fare is usually around $0.50 to $1.00. Ask the driver to drop you off at the nearest stop to the volcano entrance, which should be about a 30-minute ride. From there, you may need to walk approximately 1 km to reach the entrance of the national park.

• Taxi or Rideshare

  For a more convenient option, consider using a taxi or rideshare service like Uber. Request a ride to the San Salvador Volcano National Park. The ride from San Salvador typically costs between $10 and $15 depending on traffic and time of day. Make sure to confirm with the driver that they will take you directly to the park entrance.

• Walking

  If you are already at the entrance of the national park, prepare for a hike. The trails leading to the crater are well-maintained, but be sure to wear comfortable shoes and bring water. It's about a 2-hour hike to reach the summit, depending on your pace. Make sure to check the weather conditions before you start.
