Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the nearest major city, which is Keren. Drive south on the main road (Route 1) towards Asmara, then take the exit for Route 3 towards Massawa. Continue until you reach the sign that indicates the turnoff for ‘Idī, located near the coast. Follow the local roads to the bay area where ‘Idī is situated. The total distance is approximately 100 km with travel time around 2 to 3 hours, depending on road conditions.
Public Transportation
To reach ‘Idī via public transportation, take a bus or shared taxi from Keren to Asmara. Once in Asmara, you can switch to a bus heading towards Massawa. Inform the driver of your destination, ‘Idī, which is a known stop for many. The bus fare from Keren to Asmara is around 20 Nakfa, and from Asmara to Massawa, it will be approximately 30 Nakfa. Upon reaching Massawa, you may need to hire a local taxi or use a boda-boda (motorcycle taxi) to reach ‘Idī, which should cost around 50 to 100 Nakfa.
Taxi
For a more direct route, consider hiring a taxi from Keren or Asmara. Taxi rides can be more expensive but provide a convenient option for reaching ‘Idī directly. Negotiate the fare beforehand; expect to pay around 200 to 300 Nakfa for a ride from Keren or Asmara to ‘Idī. Ensure that the driver is aware of your destination, and confirm the estimated travel time, which should be about 2 to 3 hours depending on traffic.
