Getting There

• Car Rental

  If you are renting a car in Afar Region, start your journey from the city of Semera. Head east on the main road towards Algandi Coma. After approximately 250 kilometers, you will arrive at a junction. Follow the signs for Algandi Coma, continuing along the main road for another 30 kilometers. Once you reach Algandi Coma, use GPS coordinates (13.2205, 40.8734) to navigate to Afdeera bada, which is located just a few kilometers from the center of Algandi Coma. Be sure to refill your fuel tank in Semera, as there are limited fuel stations along the way.

• Public Transportation

  To reach Afdeera bada via public transportation, take a bus or minibus from Semera to Algandi Coma. Bus services operate regularly and the fare will be around 200 Ethiopian Birr. The journey takes approximately 4-5 hours. Once you arrive in Algandi Coma, you can hire a local taxi or a motorbike taxi (boda-boda) to get to Afdeera bada. The taxi fare should not exceed 50 Ethiopian Birr for the short distance. Make sure to communicate your destination clearly to the driver.

• Local Guides

  Alternatively, consider hiring a local guide who is familiar with the area. Many guides can be found in Semera or Algandi Coma. They often provide transportation as part of their services, which could include a traditional vehicle or a 4x4 depending on the road conditions. The cost for a guide and transport varies but expect to pay around 1500 to 3000 Ethiopian Birr for a full day, including their guiding fee.
