Car
If you are traveling by car, start from the town of Awassa, which is well-connected by roads in the Sidama Region. Drive south for approximately 25 kilometers on the main road (A7) towards the town of Arbe Gona. Follow the signs for Arbe Gona, and as you approach the town, keep an eye out for the PMV3+43R location. The last few kilometers will require you to navigate some local roads, which may not be well-marked. Use a GPS device or a mapping app for precise directions to Mt. Garanba's coordinates (6.7428625, 38.6526406). Parking may be limited, so plan accordingly.
Public Transportation
For those relying on public transport, you can take a bus from Awassa to Arbe Gona. Buses frequently depart from the Awassa bus station, and the fare is typically around 50 Ethiopian Birr (ETB). The journey will take about 1-1.5 hours depending on traffic. Once you arrive in Arbe Gona, you may need to hire a local taxi or use a motorbike taxi (bajaj) to reach the final destination of Mt. Garanba. The fare for a local taxi to the mountain area should be negotiated but expect to pay around 100-200 ETB. Make sure to inform the driver of your destination using the coordinates to ensure they know where to take you.
Combination of Public Transportation and Walking
If you are adventurous and want to save on transportation costs, take a bus from Awassa to Arbe Gona, and then walk the remaining distance to Mt. Garanba. Upon arriving in Arbe Gona, ask locals for directions towards the mountain (PMV3+43R). The walk will take approximately 1-2 hours depending on your pace. Ensure you have adequate water and snacks, as the journey may be tiring.
