Discover more about Múlafossur Waterfall

Múlafossur Waterfall is a breathtaking natural wonder that exemplifies the raw beauty of the Faroe Islands. Situated in the secluded village of Gásadalur on Vágar Island, the waterfall is easily accessible via a short drive through the Gásadalstunnilin tunnel. This picturesque cascade plunges 60 meters (200 feet) into the ocean, creating a stunning visual contrast against the backdrop of the village's traditional turf-roofed houses and the dramatic cliffs. Gásadalur, until 2004, was the only village in the Faroe Islands without a road connection, making it a haven untouched by modern intrusions. The construction of the tunnel has made it easier to visit this remote location, but it still retains its unspoiled charm. The main viewpoint, a short walk from the village, offers panoramic views of Múlafossur and the nearby island of Mykines. The waterfall's name, Múlafossur, translates to "Promontory Waterfall," reflecting its location at the edge of a sheer drop. Visitors can experience the power of nature as the water crashes into the sea, often creating a mist that rises into the air on windy days. The surrounding landscape provides ample opportunities for photography and connecting with nature. There are hiking trails around the area, and boat tours offer a unique perspective of the falls from the ocean.
