Discover more about Risin og Kellingin viewpoint

The Risin og Kellingin viewpoint is a must-see destination in the Faroe Islands, providing an awe-inspiring vista of the famed sea stacks. According to legend, these stacks are the petrified remains of a giant and a witch who attempted to steal the Faroe Islands for Iceland. As they struggled through the night, they failed to notice the rising sun, which turned them to stone, forever gazing towards Iceland. Risin, the Giant, stands 71 meters tall and is the stack farthest from the coast, while Kellingin, the Witch, is 68 meters tall and closer to the shore. Over the years, the harsh Faroese weather has taken its toll, and geologists predict that Kellingin may eventually collapse into the sea. The viewpoint itself is easily accessible and offers public binoculars for a closer look. The surrounding area boasts hiking trails that allow visitors to further explore the rugged, unspoiled nature of the Faroe Islands. Whether under the golden sunlight or shrouded in mist, the view is always breathtaking, offering a serene escape into nature. The viewpoint is open year-round, providing opportunities for stargazing and, during winter, glimpses of the Northern Lights.
