Discover more about Vestmanna

Vestmanna, historically known as Vestmannahavn (Westman's harbor), is a village on the west side of Streymoy Island in the Faroe Islands. The name reflects its Viking past, possibly indicating settlement by 'westmen,' Norse Vikings who encountered and intermarried with people from the British Isles. For centuries, Vestmanna was a traditional farming and fishing village. Today, it's a popular tourist destination, famed for the Vestmannabjørgini, a series of towering sea cliffs north of the village. These cliffs are home to thousands of seabirds, including puffins, fulmars, and guillemots, making it a haven for birdwatchers. Boat tours depart from Vestmanna harbor, navigating the narrow straits and grottoes along the coastline, offering breathtaking views of the cliffs and diverse birdlife. Beyond the cliffs, Vestmanna offers a glimpse into Faroese culture. The Saga Museum presents the history of the Faroe Islands through wax figures. The village itself is surrounded by mountains such as Hægstafjall, Økslin, Loysingafjall, and Moskurfjall. Vestmanna provides a peaceful retreat with its stunning nature and welcoming locals.
